SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 917

A RESOLUTION

To honor and commend David O. Jones for his laudable contributions to education in Tennessee.

WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this general assembly should salute those dedicated citizens who through their profound commitment to education have earned the approbation of their peers, their students, and their students’ parents; and

WHEREAS, Reverend David O. Jones is one such estimable educator who has been involved in Christian education for twenty-five years and is currently serving as Headmaster of Heritage Covenant Schools; and

WHEREAS, Heritage Covenant Schools was founded by Reverend Jones in 1986 as the concept of home education began to receive acceptance from parents and educators throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, Heritage Covenant Schools was the first school established in Tennessee to work primarily with families seeking an educational alternative to traditional schools; and

WHEREAS, the services and procedures of Heritage Covenant are specifically designed to provide a concise and accurate record of educational progress for students educated outside the traditional classroom; and

WHEREAS, through his endeavors with Heritage Covenant, Reverend Jones has provided educational administrative services to more than two thousand Middle Tennessee families; and

WHEREAS, over five hundred students have received diplomas, and many graduates have gone on to pursue higher education in various estimable colleges and universities; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Jones is diligent in his service to the youth of this state and firm in his belief that the only real education is one conducted under the authority and direction of the Bible; this assertion is exemplified in the motto of Heritage Covenant Schools, SINE CHRISTO, TOTA DOCTRINA INANIS EST, which translates, “without Christ, all knowledge is worthless”; and

WHEREAS, an assiduous champion of Christian education, Reverend David Jones’ inspirational contributions as the Headmaster of Heritage Covenant Schools have provided endless opportunities and touched the lives of countless students, and he should be specially recognized; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and commend Reverend David O. Jones, Headmaster of Heritage Covenant Schools, for his myriad contributions to education in this state and extend to him our best wishes for every future success and happiness.
